Bydlo Picks a Winner & So DO WE!
This band was brought to my attention as a result of a message I posted in usenet. The guy who does their T-Shirts, John Greer of Idjit, a custom t-shirt screenprinting shop in Mobile, Alabama, saw the message and sent a simple reply.
The message read,"Check out Pain, you won't be dissapointed!"
Well I wasn't. I contacted John, who contacted the band, who imediately contacted me. I then recieved a hefty package containing press releases, info and a CD. With a name like Pain I wasn't sure what to expect. Suprise! This is a fun band! Not dark and demented like the name brings to mind.
They do play around with it a bit in their lyrics though. After listening to the CD, titled "Midgets With Guns", my favorite tune has to be a song called "Fight". Very nice groove which smacks of early Boingo! But they don't stick to one thing. There are songs that take on a calypso mood or maybe south of the border. It reminds me of the way the late Freddie Mercury use to play with various styles and tempos of music.
I can't say this CD is for everyone. Some people won't get it and some will really like it. I think Boingo fans will apreciate the frenetic pace of some of these songs. I'd like to hear more from this band. They are hardworking, starting their own label, and I expect you'll be hearing a lot more from this band from Alabama!
